Colin Laver Heating Limited offers apprenticeship schemes for young people. The scheme offers modern day apprenticeships in the plumbing and heating trade.
Our apprenticeship scheme is aimed at young people between 16 and 18, and is designed to give them a chance to learn a trade within the plumbing and heating industry. Our scheme delivers high quality training and provides the apprentices with real work experience and an industry recognised qualification to a minimum of NVQ Level 2.

Train to be a Smart Meter Technician

Training Given


Job Title:                      Smart Meter Engineer

Responsible to:               Smart Meter Operations Manager

Working Pattern:           40 hrs per week on a rota between Monday – Friday 08:00 – 20:00 and Saturday 08:00 – 18:00 (to be confirmed)

Location:                            Newbury/Oxford/Swindon/Reading/Slough


Fully Trained Salary: -£34,000 (£31,000 Basic, £3,000 paid annually)

Purpose of Job/Key objectives: To install Dual Fuel Smart Meters in domestic properties.

Principal Duties/Tasks and responsibilities:

Provide Smart Meter Installations to domestic properties

Manage own Stock levels on van and/or via ‘dropbox’ facilities

Provide first-class customer service and support

Ensure all worksheet submissions are accurate and timely

Work closely with the Smart Meter Operations Manager to ensure daily/monthly/quarterly targets are met

Plan, organise and manage own workload to ensure all company deadlines are met

Resolution of customer queries in a professional and efficient manner

Any other duties that may be deemed appropriate to this role

A certain level of flexibility will be required regarding the job role and responsibilities to fulfil this position


Skills Specification


·         Experience of exceeding targets

·         Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal

·         Ability to work calmly under pressure and keep to deadlines

·         Ability to work independently but also as part of a small team

·         IT literate



CMA1 or CCN1


Training Given

Level 2 Electric Smart Metering Qualification





£18,500 during training – estimated time 8-10 weeks

£24,750 during probation period – 6 weeks after Live date

£31,000 ongoing

Annual Leave 20 Days

Full Training provided

Company vehicle supplied

Overtime and On Call available
